Properly installed, cure-sealed and maintained concrete may last at least 25 years and beyond depending on the climate and the application.
Concrete placed at optimum temperatures of 50 degrees fahrenheit or above, may be ready to walk on within the first 24 hours; however, concrete may take up to 28 days to reach its full strength.
One of the most commonly asked questions of all time. There are many causes such as; settlement due to erosion, poor ground conditions, compaction issues and adding excessive amounts of water to the concrete mix. The most overlooked truths are that concrete naturally shrinks during it's curing time, that is why control joints are strategically placed to allow for expansion and contraction while giving a more esthetically appealing look.
The number one reason concrete rises in the winter is because there is moisture under the concrete before the ground freezes. When the saturated ground under the slab freezes it expands, raising the concrete. In most cases it will thaw and go back to its original position, but if the concrete moves too much or something stops the concrete from returning it will be susceptible to cracking and breaking.
The best way to prevent grass and any other plant from growing in the crevices in concrete is to clean them out and fill the voids with a flexible caulk. There are special caulks made for filling joints and crack in concrete.
